Studio 191 has been part of Amsterdam's movement community for over a decade. We are a Barre, Pilates and Sculpting studio that takes instructing seriously — not as an add-on, but as a discipline in its own right. This is why our courses produce not only knowledgable instructors but skilful ones too.
This teacher training reflects how we work: small groups, honest feedback, a hands-on approach to teaching (from day one) and a genuine investment in the people who come through our doors. We are not producing instructors in bulk. We are helping a small number of people, each intake, become teachers who develop the confidence and skills to lead group classes in their desired discipline.
What is more, we provide tools and guidance to help you get your teaching career off the ground.
-
This course is a great option for both brand new trainers and existing instructors of other movement modalities, such as yoga, pilates, fitness, etc., aspiring to add Barre to their teaching skillset.
If you are new to teaching, it's the perfect entry point. Learning to teach Barre is much more accessible than other movement styles and we can provide you with all the teaching skills you need (in 4 days) to choreograph your first class!
If you currently give personal trainings or teach privates/duets (common in Pilates, for example) and would like to develop group-instructor skills then this course is the perfect skillset-bridge, whilst also learning to instruct Barre.
With a major focus on group training skills, we will elevate the way you design, teach and present your group classes, with Barre as the core movement modality.
-
This program is open to new and experienced instructors. What is most important is that you have a regular Barre practice and are confident performing the repertoire (the moves).
It is important that those new to teacher read the Study Guide in full before our 4 days together.
-
What’s most important is to attend Barre classes (whether that’s in a studio or online).
We will also provide you with a study guide 2 weeks prior to the course start date, which will support you with preparing for the 4 day program. This study guide includes useful terminology and foundational information that brings all trainees to an even starting point on day one of our course.

Janira Duarte
Graduated from the Dance Academy, I’ve carried the knowledge and discipline gained there into my career as a barre and Pilates instructor. Working with my body is something I’ve done since childhood and will continue to do for the rest of my life.
Over the years, I’ve learned to understand my body on a deeper level and become more aware of what each movement truly does for me, both physically and emotionally, and what drives me to move in the first place. Music plays an incredibly important role in that process, and you can feel that influence throughout my classes.
The exercises are carefully structured around the music, and to move this way, it’s essential to awaken and develop your musicality. Musicality brings movement to life within the body — and I’m here to help guide you through that journey.
Natasha Martin Lane
Natasha is the founder and owner of Studio 191 and The Cosmos, community-focused spaces dedicated to intelligent, embodied movement and positive, inclusive communities. Today, Natasha focuses on business development, the growth and support of Studio 191 and The Cosmos’ in-house teams, and the creation and delivery of the studio’s instructor training programs. She is passionate about building sustainable, values-led fitness businesses and designing in-person education experiences that prioritise real-world practice, mentorship and the power of collective energy. In this role, she champions both emerging and established instructors, ensuring they have the tools, confidence and community to thrive.
Our Philosophy —
We design our trainings to cultivate the most impact whilst respecting your time and energy. We believe in learning through doing. We don’t waste time. We want you to feel what we teach you, and then see you reflect the knowledge and skills back to us accurately - but with your own authenticity. We are dedicated to creating a learning environment that is impactful, respectful, safe and empowering. We want to enrich each moment of training by giving you the most knowledge, hands-on experience and deepest level of understanding possible. We ask ‘why?’ as much as ‘how?’.
Dedicated to Your Success
You don’t need someone else’s choreography when you have knowledge, the skills to execute it and the confidence that what you’re teaching is based on true method, form and anatomy. Break away from needing the choreography handed to you, become a deeply insightful and creative instructor designing your own authentic classes.
Become a teacher, not a robot
We honour each trainee - what they already know, the experiences they bring with them, the questions they have to offer, the points they have to share. Each course is designed for trainees to receive as much as possible from our course leaders and whilst we have a fast-paced curriculum in place, we often see much enrichment coming from the moments of connection and shared vulnerability. The community cultivated within your training will undoubtedly become a powerful source of encouragement, support and genuine feedback.
Safe and inclusive. Always
